Why white borders...?
I have been asked about what makes me use this style! Many have said they really like it...it's different. So heres why...

Have you ever looked at a piece of artwork and you think to yourself "Mmm I like that bit and not that bit"? or "That bit should be highlighted more"? That's what the white borders do for me.

It allows me (if i decide on that image) to showcase only certain parts of that image to either give it that showcase feature or to allow a meaning to show through on it's own without seeing the image as a whole. So, I create an image and then (if i decide on that image) only to allow certain parts to show to create an overall meaning inside each square.

I hope I explained this well enough lol It's hard to explian why people do certain things with their artworks. Each to their own an all that jazz!
